Storczyki w kompozycjach z innymi roślinami. Z jakimi roślinami łączyć storczyki?

Orchids in compositions with other plants. How to make them? That's the topic of today's video in the "House Full of Flowers" series. Enjoy! Orchids are extraordinary plants. Exotic, long-blooming, diverse, offering a rich palette of colors and shapes. The most frequently chosen and cultivated species in our homes is the wonderful Phalenopsis, due to its ease of cultivation and long-lasting blooms. It is also widely available in flower shops, garden centers, and supermarkets. However, we are increasingly encountering other orchid species, equally beautiful and interesting. We usually grow them individually in separate pots at home, because they are epiphytes and require a special, highly permeable soil. Fertilization must also be tailored to their needs, which is why stores offer liquid fertilizers, nutrients, and fertilizer sticks specifically for this group of plants. For example, the gradually dissolving sticks contain a complete set of nutrients needed by orchids and provide them with this nourishment regularly and sustainably for over three months. But just because these plants are epiphytes doesn't mean they must always grow on their own. They can certainly become part of a larger plant arrangement, especially if we have a lot of them at home, enjoy propagating them, and more and more individual specimens are taking up space on our window sills, shelves, or dressers. Instead of growing them individually, we can combine them into larger, beautiful, and striking arrangements. This is also an excellent solution for those who love orchids but don't enjoy keeping spent specimens and waiting for the next bloom, which discourages them from growing them. However, in a composition, after flowering, they will continue to be part of a larger planting, so their flowerless form won't be an uninteresting element but will blend into the overall look. So how can we combine plants with different needs into a single planting? First, we need a larger container. Various types of bowls are perfect for this; they're not too deep but wide enough to accommodate a relatively large number of small plants. This allows us to create a small jungle effect in the pot. Furthermore, we need to ensure proper drainage. Some have special drainage inserts, or some have drainage holes and are supported by pads. If we choose a bowl without holes or special inserts, we should ensure a generous amount of expanded clay, gravel, or other drainage material at the bottom and be careful not to overwater the plants. Then, the container can be filled with a substrate suitable for most of the plants that will be placed in it. For my first arrangement, I use a substrate for so-called green plants, as they will be planted here alongside the phalenopsis. It's important to leave the orchids in a substrate that's suitable for them. That's why I placed three production pots in traditional houseplant soil, where I'll then place the selected orchids without repotting them. As for the greenery, I'll use the plants I've propagated myself for my mini jungle. Generally, you can use whatever you happen to have at home or whatever you like best. In my case, these will be ferns, freshly rooted golden fern cuttings that will eventually hang over the container, a yucca shoot I rooted myself, and a small dracaena. So, from the individual orchid pots, I'll transfer my specimens to a large new container. There will be room here for a relatively tall Phalaenopsis with dark purple flowers, a Phalaenopsis with purple-yellow flowers that will grow in the center of the arrangement, and a miniature Phalaenopsis that will display its purple-white flowers at the front. We can plant selected green plants in pots, or we can simply place them in, just like orchids in production pots, if we anticipate making changes to the arrangement soon. I'll plant the yucca in my container, as it was clearly suffocating in its current pot, and the ferns. I'll just place the dracaena and epipremnum seedlings in pots until the ferns grow and take over the entire green space of my plant bowl... And that's all for today. Have fun arranging orchids with other plants. May they bloom profusely and grow healthily!
