The song was released off the band's 8th studio album The Game and went on to become a worldwide hit, charting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US for 3 weeks. It ended up becoming the band's best-selling single with over 7 million copies sold while receiving a Grammy nomination and an American Music Award for Favorite Rock Single.
