Kevin Puts "Credo" performed by the Rosamunde String Quartet
Kevin Puts "Credo" I. "The Violin Guru of Katonah" II. "Infrastructure" III. "Learning to Dance" -Infrastructure (continued) IV. "Credo" ----------------- Shanshan Yao, Violin 1 Noah Bendix-Balgley, Violin 2 Teng Li, Viola Nathan Vickery, Cello https://www.rosamundestringquartet.com ----------------- Program notes by Kevin Puts: "It feels like a long time ago when, in 2005, I wrote Credo. The wonderful Miro Quartet, no doubt taking their cue from the often sunny and optimistic music they knew of mine, asked me to write something which emphasized the "lighter side of America." I found that a difficult assignment, to write something which might brush under the carpet the many difficulties we faced as a country at the time. If given this assignment today, I would consider it an even greater challenge. When I read in recent news (albeit of dubious credibility) about the possibility of contact with alien life, or travel to other star systems (as in the somewhat-recent film Interstellar, which I found fascinating) I admit, I can't help but get lost in the dreams of "somewhere else". Meanwhile, we are destroying our planet quite knowingly, we are failing to treat each other and our differences with fairness and understanding, we are making bad decisions about what will keep us and our children safe. So if I wrote this piece again (Credo II?), I would approach it in the same way. I would look to private moments of beauty and hope in my own life for inspiration. Perhaps as you listen to the performance tonight, you will do the same." http://www.kevinputs.com ------------------------------------ The Rosamunde String Quartet was founded in 2015 so that its members could pursue their passion for the string quartet repertoire. Its members include young stars from three of the world’s greatest orchestras: Noah Bendix-Balgley, 1st concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic; Shanshan Yao, concert violinist and former member of the Pittsburgh Symphony and New York Philharmonic; Teng Li, principal violist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic; and Nathan Vickery, cellist in the New York Philharmonic. They take time away from their international careers to create music together. Each member is an accomplished soloist and musician, and brings a unique voice to the ensemble. By uniting their experiences, they create a distinctive sound and unanimity of expression. Above all, they hugely enjoy sharing their love of chamber music with each other and with audiences. The Rosamunde String Quartet has appeared on chamber music series in New York City, Washington DC, and Toronto, Canada. Upcoming dates include performances in Cleveland, Montgomery (AL) and Boston. The quartet is managed by Frank Salomon Associates. ------------------------- Video and Audio by Rob Davidson https://www.robdavidsonmedia.com
