He is well regarded for introducing new words to the Marathi language. His books opened a new genre and they didn't just develop readers but also encouraged new writers. You can read this article Udakanche Dene (उदकांचे देणे) in in a book “Junglacha dena”(जंगलाचं देणं). The article gives information about origin of water. It also talks about technique of water search that are used in India since ancient time period. Searching for underground water using a coconut is a traditional water-divining method practiced in several parts of India. While this technique isn’t scientifically proven like modern hydrogeology, it has been used for centuries by local farmers and water diviners as an indicator of groundwater. Brihat Samhita : This is one of the most important Sanskrit texts of ancient India. It was written in the 6th century CE by the renowned astronomer, mathematician, and astrologer Varahamihira. The text, known as Brihat Samhita, provides extensive knowledge on various subjects such as science, astronomy, astrology, architecture, hydrology, climate, agriculture, beauty, metallurgy, perfumery, and botany. The chapter Dakargaladhyaya in Brihat Samhita is a significant section dedicated to hydrogeology. It describes the traditional and scientific methods used in ancient India to locate underground water sources. The chapter explains how the color and moisture of the soil, the shape of the land, the type of trees and grasses, and subtle environmental signs can help identify the presence of water. Certain trees—such as Peepal, Banyan, and Ashvattha—are believed to indicate the availability of water beneath their roots. The freshness of leaves, lush greenery, and healthy plant growth also signal the proximity of underground water. Dark, moist, and cool soil is considered a strong indicator of water beneath the surface. The chapter also outlines how to estimate the depth of water based on the type of vegetation, the slope of the land, and seasonal variations. It notes that during the monsoon season, water sources rise closer to the surface, while in summer they retreat to deeper levels. In ancient times, these techniques were used to select appropriate locations for wells, ponds, and other water reservoirs. Thus, Dakargaladhyaya stands as a remarkable blend of early Indian scientific knowledge and keen observation of nature.
