Edit: I don't know why I mispronounced the name of the place, but it's obviously called Transnistria (or Pridnestrovie). After spending half a day in Moldova, I grab a marshrutka that takes me back in time, straight to Tiraspol, the capital of Transnistria. Transnistria is an unrecognized state between Moldova and Ukraine, supported by Russia, and decidedly nostalgic. You can find dozens of statues of Lenin, old propaganda images, hammer and sickle, and much more.
