The Three Paths of Goods For trade to occur, production needs to leave the field or factory and reach the hands of buyers. Humanity has used and developed three main routes: 🧳 A. Land Routes (The Power of the Ground) In the Past: Roads were dirt tracks, and goods were transported on the backs of mules and horses by muleteers. Later, in the 19th and 20th centuries, railroads emerged, and trains began carrying tons of products (such as coffee and rice) at unprecedented speeds. In the Present: Today, land trade is dominated by immense paved highways, where trucks and freight trailers circulate. We also use modern freight trains and the subway. Local Example: Anápolis is a gigantic logistics hub because of this: the city is crossed by major highways (such as BR-153 and BR-060) and the North-South Railway! 🚣 B. River Routes (The Wealth of Rivers) In the Past: Rivers were Brazil's first natural roads. Colonizers and indigenous peoples used canoes and wooden boats to explore the interior of the country, trade gold, hides, and food. Rivers were vital because there were no roads in the dense forest. In the Present: Currently, large navigable rivers are transformed into waterways. They are used to transport heavy goods in barges, such as soybeans and corn, more cheaply than by truck. 🚢 C. Maritime Routes (The Highways of the Oceans) In the Past: Trade between distant countries was carried out by caravels and wooden ships, powered by the wind. Voyages across the oceans took months and were full of dangers, such as storms. In the Present: Today, the seas are the most important routes for global trade. Giant cargo ships (container ships) cross the oceans carrying electronics, cars, and oil from one continent to another in just a few days. 🎮 Practical Activities for the Notebook Activity 1: Time Detectives (Route Classification) Copy the sentences into your notebook and identify whether the economic activity and the route belong to the PAST or the PRESENT: A caravan of muleteers travels for three weeks carrying dried meat and iron tools on the backs of mules along a dirt road. Answer: PAST. A giant cargo ship unloads thousands of containers full of video game parts and cell phones from Asia at a Brazilian port. Answer: PRESENT. Navigators use large wooden caravels, depending on the wind, to transport sugar produced in Brazil to Europe. Answer: PAST. Trucks loaded with medicines leave the Anápolis Agroindustrial District (DAIA) and travel along paved highways to supply pharmacies. Answer: PRESENT. Activity 2: The Map of My Clothes (Critical Thinking) Imagine that the t-shirt you are wearing today was manufactured in a very distant country, such as China. In your notebook, write a short text (3 to 5 lines) explaining the transportation routes it had to take from the factory on the other side of the world to your home in our city. Example of expected student response: "The t-shirt left the factory and took a maritime route inside a giant ship across the oceans. When it arrived at the port in Brazil, it was placed on a truck that traveled by land (highways) until it reached the stores in Anápolis, where my family bought it." ---- ➡️ This content was produced by the Municipality of Anápolis, SEMED - Municipal Department of Education, CEADI – Municipal Center for Distance Learning of Anápolis. 🤝 Objective: To connect students, teachers, and families in building a public, innovative, and quality education. 📚 For more classes, tips, and learning paths, subscribe to the channel, activate the bell 🔔 and follow our content! ✨ Also visit our website: 👍 https://sites.google.com/edu.anapolis... 🎯 Keywords: free video lessons, school reinforcement, elementary education, BNCC (National Common Core Curriculum), innovative education, hybrid teaching, teacher training, quality public education, Continuing Education.
