He has studied electric bass with Lincoln Goines, Weather Report's second bassist Alphonso Johnson, and Noboru Kuroishi, among others, and double bass with Ron Carter, Gerald Cannon, Charnett Moffett, and Jun Suzuki, among others. He also studied the essence of music and jazz under Japan's super guitarist, Kojiro Iwatani. He currently performs live and records in a wide range of genres, mainly in Tokyo, including jazz, fusion, pop, R&B, funk, Latin, and African music. He has performed with many artists, including Eric Miyashiro, Kojiro Iwatani, Michael Davis, Trevor Mires (Incognito), Jim Butler, Dennis Lambert, Masaaki Ikeda, and Masaki Domoto. He also traveled to New York, where he leveraged his experience studying and performing there, as well as his experiences in Japan, to mentor others. His experience has led him to believe that anyone can essentially master music, and he puts this into practice in his lessons. Furthermore, despite his love of jazz, he rejects the idea that jazz can only be mastered by those who have mastered a variety of other genres. He has created instructional methods that make jazz more accessible, and has trained many jazz players to date. I also offer lessons in bass, jazz improvisation, and jazz theory.
