Few composers better represent the divergences of a historical period than Antonio Vivaldi and Johann Sebastian Bach. The former brings together the clichés of the Italian style and the latter synthesises the features of the German style. However, the connections between the two are deeper than they seem: whilst Bach strove to transcribe a good number of Italian concertos, Vivaldi maintained important contacts with the Germanic world.
