JAT Chat | From Ankle Sprains to Hip Pain: How Youth Injuries Predict Later Trouble (Audio)
Welcome to JAT Chat, presented by the Journal of Athletic Training, the official journal of the National Athletic Trainers' Association. In this episode, co-host Dr. Shelby Baez speaks with Dr. Christa Nelson (Northwestern University) about the recent publication, "Are Prior Foot/Ankle or Knee Injuries in Youth Sports Associated With Current Hip Pain in Young Adulthood?" The episode reviews the study design, key findings, and clinical implications. The research—based on a survey of university students who played youth sports—found that prior foot and ankle injuries, especially when combined with knee injuries, were linked to greater odds of current hip pain. Dr. Nelson emphasized assessing the whole lower-extremity chain, thorough injury histories, and long-term joint health when treating athletes. Article: https://doi.org/10.4085/1062-6050-022...
