Salal Dam gates opened for flushing; Chenab River in spate; administration issues advisory|News18J&K

The gates of the Salal Dam in Reasi district were opened this morning for a flushing operation. Following this, the water level of the Chenab River has been rising steadily, and the river is surging with a strong current.In view of the potential danger, the district administration had already issued an advisory urging people not to go near the banks of the Chenab River. The administration has stated that, given the rising water level of the river, any negligence could prove fatal.The Reasi Police are also visiting villages situated along the riverbanks and sensitive areas to alert residents via loudspeakers. People are being urged not to let children go near the river, to avoid taking livestock to the riverbanks, and to adhere to all safety guidelines issued by the administration.The administration has appealed to citizens not to pay heed to rumors and to rely only on official information.
