Suffix is a letter or a group of letters which is added to the end of a word to form a different word e.g order – ordering, achieve – achievement. To avoid awkward joining:- 1. The suffix -ing is represented by a light dot. 2. plurals -ings by a light dash. 3. -ment – the sign mnt where convenient, otherwise by half length stroke n (nt). 4. -mental-ly-ity – disjoined the sign of mnt. 5. -fulness – disjoined stroke f having circle s 6. -lessness – disjoined stroke upward l having circle s 7. – ship – disjoin of join stroke sh 8. -lity and -rity when preceded by any vowel, is expressed by disjoining the preceding stroke. 9. -logical-ly by disjoined stroke j. 10. The word endings – ward and -yard are expressed by half-length w and y resp. 11. -ly is represented by the stroke l (disjoined where necessary), and in some cases by the hooked form. The short vowels (light dot and light dash) can be remembered by repeating the sentence "That pen is not much good". i.e word that giving sound a, pen - e, is - i, not - o, much - u, good - oo. Always practice Pitman Shorthand with pencil and make the thin strokes, light vowel signs LIGHT and thick strokes, dark vowel signs DARK. Pitman Shorthand language increases the speed, fluency in writing.
