La Teoría del Etiquetamiento: ¿Por qué el comportamiento desviado depende de la sociedad?

Labeling Theory argues that deviant behavior is determined by society because of how society defines and reacts to certain behaviors. Rather than considering deviance as an inherent characteristic of individuals, this theory focuses on the labeling process and the social responses that arise from it. When society labels someone as deviant, that person may internalize that label and develop a deviant identity, which can lead to further involvement in deviant or criminal behavior. Society establishes norms, values, and institutions to enforce those norms, and social reactions to deviance can lead to stigma, exclusion, and legal sanctions. Furthermore, society has the ability to define and change labels and categories of deviance over time.
