Unless you recently had a heart checkup and were connected to an EKG, you could have cardiac arrhythmias and not even know it. Cardiac arrhythmias are among the most common heart diseases, and we, as physicians, are seeing an ever-increasing incidence and, unfortunately, mortality. Why? Because we're getting older and – paradoxically – also because of improved diagnostic and therapeutic options. The most common cardiac arrhythmia, the technical term for which is arrhythmia, is atrial fibrillation. But there are others, and while atrial fibrillation is relatively harmless, ventricular fibrillation is an absolute emergency. I explain four important types in more detail in the video: 1. Atrial flutter: The problem lies in the atria, which move approximately 250-350 times per minute. 2. Atrial fibrillation: The problem lies in the atria, which move approximately 350-600 times per minute. 3. Ventricular flutter and 4. Ventricular fibrillation: These are absolute medical emergencies because the heart's blood flow and pumping capacity decrease significantly. This can lead to cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrhythmias: What are they? Simply put, cardiac arrhythmias are any deviation of the heart rate from the normal range. Doctors distinguish between three different types of cardiac arrhythmias. In bradycardia, the heart beats too slowly; in tachycardia, or rapid heartbeat, it beats too fast. The third type is irregularity in the heartbeat, called arrhythmias. Our heart rhythm is the result of electrical impulses that stimulate the heart to beat. These impulses originate in the right atrium of the heart. From there, they spread and ensure that the blood is pumped further. The impulse is transmitted in the ventricles and from there to the apex of the heart. There, it triggers further pumping, and the blood enters the circulatory system. Cardiac arrhythmias occur when errors occur at some point in this conduction chain—for example, the impulse is not transmitted correctly or too many impulses are generated. The causes are varied, and besides heart disease, there can be many other reasons. These can include 1) electrolyte imbalances, 2) high blood pressure, 3) hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. However, too much 4) alcohol or an 5) electrical shock can just as easily disrupt the heart rate. Overall, these are many influencing factors that we cannot precisely control. ▬ About this channel ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ With "Video Visit Dr. Weigl," you have found the current, medical-scientific channel that describes topics related to pain, #medicine, and #health in an understandable way, but based on facts, guidelines, and studies. ▬ Even more videos ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Most common cardiac arrhythmia - atrial fibrillation: https://bit.ly/Vorhofflimmern_Video All about atherosclerosis and its consequences: https://bit.ly/Atherosklerose_Video Heart attack due to cardiac arrhythmia: https://bit.ly/Herzinfarkt_Video Causes and consequences of high blood pressure: https://bit.ly/BluthochdruckUrsachenF...
