Description of the Consonants G, H, J, and K G – /g/ or /dʒ/ Description: The letter G has two common sounds: /g/ (hard G), made by raising the back of the tongue to the soft part of the roof of the mouth. Examples: go, game, girl /dʒ/ (soft G), usually before e, i, or y. Examples: giant, gem, giraffe H – /h/ Description: H is a voiceless consonant sound. It is made by gently breathing air out through the mouth without blocking it. Examples: hat, house, hand, hill J – /dʒ/ Description: J is a voiced consonant sound. It is produced by briefly stopping the airflow and then releasing it with friction. Examples: jam, jump, juice, jacket K – /k/ Description: K is a voiceless consonant sound. It is made by raising the back of the tongue to the soft part of the roof of the mouth and releasing the air.
