Synth-B - Beware the Voice | Advanced Krell Patch
Beware the voice, the signal, the shape Lingering in the vast, dark void, not to be answered, but to be heard. Do not follow it, for its source is not to be known, but to be forgotten. Do not search for a message, for it is not to be understood, but to be mistaken. Meaning is the wound, which bleeds only visions. The animal dreams upward. The machine dreams inward. And somewhere between them, the first mistake is to reply. This is an extended version of my Krell patch on my Eurorack modular synthesizer. The core of the patch is still based on the classic Krell idea: random or semi-random pitch, changing envelope times, and self-triggering events creating an organic, alien-sounding generative sequence. For this advanced version, I added a spoken / whispered text layer. The text was written and recorded by me, then loaded into Make Noise Morphagene. The voice is not used as a traditional vocal track, but as another source of excitation and texture inside the generative patch. Patch notes: The recorded voice from Morphagene first goes into a VCA controlled by an AD envelope. This envelope changes in parallel with the basic Krell patch, so the voice layer breathes with the same generative structure. From there, the voice is split into three parallel paths: 1. One path goes into Mutable Instruments Rings. Rings is triggered by the same trigger source as the basic Krell patch, and it also receives the same V/oct pitch CV. Several Rings parameters are modulated randomly, creating a resonant, alien shadow of the spoken voice. 2. Another path goes into a VCF with randomly modulated cutoff frequency. This filtered voice layer keeps some of the text intelligible, while still blending into the overall atmosphere. The VCF output is mixed together with the Rings output. 3. A third path goes into a basic reverb module, then into Make Noise Mimeophon. Mimeophon is set fully wet, with Skew enabled, creating a wide stereo layer around the main patch. Some of its parameters are also modulated. The Rings and VCF mix is then sent into Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio for the final spatial layer. All of these elements are added on top of the original Krell patch. Many parameters are continuously changing, so the whole patch behaves as a generative system rather than a fixed composition. #modularsynth #ambient #generativemusic #eurorack #experimentalmusic #synthesizer #krellpatch
