The crash of JAL-123 (JL-123) is considered the deadliest single aircraft accident in history, with 520 fatalities. JAL-123 was taking off from Tokyo's Haneda International Airport to Osaka Itami International Airport. Just 12 minutes into its climb, the pressurized tailgate ruptured, causing a violent outflow of air and damaging the vertical stabilizer and the entire hydraulic system controlling the tail stabilizer. This rendered JAL-123 unmanageable. The plane eventually crashed into a high valley about 100 kilometers from Tokyo. Miraculously, four people were found alive. According to survivors who waited all night for help, there could have been more survivors as the screams of injured people were heard, but those voices gradually faded into the night.
