It was pioneering tech 50 years ago and even now, parts of it can still be considered 'futuristic'. This was Research Test Vehicle 31 ... a tracked hovercraft. Britain was expecting to be zipping up and down the country at 300mph on one of these thanks to Professor Eric Laithwaite's developments with linear induction motors and ongoing experiments with maglev (magnetic levitation).
