A diplomatic clash erupted at the 16th BRICS National Security Advisers meeting in New Delhi, chaired by India's NSA Ajit Doval, after Iran accused the United Arab Emirates of helping facilitate attacks against it. Iran's Deputy Secretary for Defence Affairs at the Supreme National Security Council, Ghadir Nezamipour, alleged that US and Israeli attacks linked to the Strait of Hormuz crisis were partly launched from bases on UAE territory, and accused Abu Dhabi of allowing its soil to be used against Iranian civilian sites, reportedly displaying an image of students he said were killed in Minab. The UAE has repeatedly and categorically rejected Iran's allegations, with Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar asserting the country's full sovereign and military rights to respond to any threat. The spat highlights deepening strains inside an expanded BRICS that now includes both rivals, as host India calls for de-escalation and the open flow of trade through the Strait of Hormuz.
