In this video, I show you how to transform your repertoire into one of the most powerful tools for developing your musical perception and your understanding of harmony. Instead of just memorizing chords, you will learn a practical exercise that consists of playing the same song in various keys. By doing this, you memorize the harmonic progression, understand the function of each chord, and internalize the degrees of the harmonic field naturally. In the example in this video, we work with the I–IV–V progression. By transposing this sequence to all keys, you learn much more than just one song: you begin to recognize this pattern in various songs and gain much more confidence to play without relying on chord charts.
