Afterwards he joined Count Basie’s orchestra in ’78 and played also with Parliament/Funkadelic. With recognizable phrasing, he mixes jazz, soul, funk and even gospel. Fred Wesley is one of the most famous trombonists in the world, he has recently collaborated with great artists such as Marcus Miller, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo and George Benson, and continues to tour with this own band called "Fred Wesley and the New J.B.’s" – a reference to James Brown’s famous band "The J.B.’s". For this concert at the Moods in 2018, Fred Wesley tries to rekindle the funk flame – weakened by the death of notable legends – with a new formation composed of Gary Winters on trumpet, Philip Whack on horns, Peter Madsen on keyboards, Reggie Ward on guitar, Dwayne Dolphin on bass and Bruce Cox on drums.
