We spent the day hunting down some of the most popular banh mi spots in the San Gabriel Valley. From soft house-made baguettes to loaded pork belly sandwiches, each stop had its own thing going on—and all of them are local favorites for a reason. We started at Banh Mi Hoa Phat in Monterey Park, where the bread is baked in-house and the meatball banh mi comes with grilled green onion and a buttery spread that takes it to another level. Pro tip: the veggies come on the side, and the packaging has a hole so the bread stays crisp. Then we headed to Hue Thai Bakery & Deli in Rosemead. You’ve probably driven by it a hundred times without noticing. But inside, they’re stacking their sandwiches with crispy pork belly, pâté, and creamy Vietnamese butter for under $8. It’s packed, it’s juicy, and it’s got that jalapeño kick that keeps every bite interesting. After that, we stopped by Banh Mi My Tho, a tiny counter spot just a few blocks away. No frills here—just some of the best classic banh mi you’ll find anywhere. Their #1 special with head cheese, ham, roasted pork, and pâté is still one of the best bites in SGV. And finally, we made it to Nem by Summer Rolls in San Gabriel. This one’s not your traditional baguette—it comes on ciabatta, almost like a Vietnamese torta. Their grilled pork shoulder banh mi has egg, peanuts, herbs, and mayo, and somehow it all works. If you’ve only tried one of these spots, you’re missing out.
