How We Got Water On Site | EP 03
Setting up a temporary water connection is one of the first jobs on any construction site, and on this net zero duplex build in Vancouver it starts with a phone call to the city and a shovel. Before demolition or foundation work can begin, you need running water on site, and Ian Fung walks through exactly how to find and tap into the existing line. The city gives one clue: 2.5 metres west of the east property line. That's roughly 8 feet, and it's the only guide to where the buried connection sits. Ian digs straight down against a retaining wall, working through roots and rocks, hoping to hit the old copper line in the right spot. Once the cap turns up, Manny and Encore from MNP Plumbing and Heating take over. They shut off the supply, cut the line, and connect a temporary service using a shark bite fitting that grips the pipe and locks on with no solder or torch. Minutes later there's water on site for dust control during abatement and demolition, plus a buried shut-off that stays accessible without becoming a trip hazard. There's also a snag worth watching: the gas meter still hasn't been pulled by Fortis BC, with the house days from coming down. Whether you build for a living or just like watching a site come together, this is the unglamorous prep work that makes everything after it possible. #NetZeroBuild #VancouverBuilder #HomeBuilding #Construction #Plumbing #DuplexBuild #buildwithme Check out HOLTOP ductless ERVs at www.holtopcanada.com A ductless ERV provides continuous fresh air by exhausting stale indoor air while recovering heat energy.
