American Imperialism - Iran, Vietnam, Chile: Stephen Kinzer on Overthrow Part 2
http://www.mslaw.edu The US has a more than 100 year long history of overthrowing governments we don’t like, including Iran, Chile, Guatamala and South Vietnam. In an effort to roll back communism, the CIA often overthrew democratically elected governments and empowered military dictatorships, resulting in years of violence and unrest, and widespread hatred of the United States. In part two of this episode of the Massachusetts School of Law's Program, Books Of Our Time, Dean Emeritus Lawrence R. Velvel speaks with author Stephen Kinzer about his book Overthrow; which addresses America’s over one hundred year history of overthrowing foreign governments, either by invasion or American sponsored coup d’états. Mr. Kinzer is an author, journalist and academic. A former newspaper reporter, the veteran New York Times correspondent has filed stories from more than fifty countries on five continents, as well as published several books. The Massachusetts School of Law at Andover also presents information on important current affairs to the general public in television and radio broadcasts, an intellectual journal, conferences, author appearances, blogs and books.
