The forest of Paimpont, often identified with Broceliande, mythical and enchanted forest of the Arthurian legend, is a French forest located around Paimpont in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine in Brittany, about 30 km southwest of Rennes. The forest of Broceliande is a mythical forest imagined by Chrétien de Troyes in the late 12th century. In his Arthurian novel "The Lion Knight", he invented this forest of wonders by taking inspiration from a forest in Little Brittany known for its legends and other wonderful stories, "Bréchéliant". Today, it is in the Forest of Paimpont that the myth of this magical forest is perpetuated.
