HVAR, Croatia - is it worth visiting the island of Hvar?

Is the island of Hvar worth visiting when you travel to Croatia? Hvar, Croatia is an island off the Dalmatian coast on the Adriatic Sea. The town of Hvar is known to pull in the crowds and can be a busy party town that is active late into the night - is this what we found when we visited in October? Just outside the old town, up on the hillside the fortress. It's not a long long walk and you get some of the most beautiful views over the old town of Hvar (a must-do when visiting).
