Orientation Jaw Relation | Facebow
Maxillomandibular relation or Jaw relation is any spatial relationship of the maxillae to the mandible or any one of the infinite relationships of the mandible to the maxillae. Maxillomandibular relations can be classified as- 1. Orientation jaw relation 2. Vertical jaw relation 3. Horizontal jaw relation Orientation jaw relation is the first jaw relation to be recorded and it is recorded using a facebow. Facebow is a caliper-like instrument used to record the spatial relationship of the maxillary arch to some anatomic reference point/points and then transfer this relationship to an articulator and it orients the dental cast in the same relationship to the opening axis of the articulator.
