First Grade Personal Narrative Writing
Watch Nancy Fetzer present Personal Narrative writing to a class of first graders. In this lesson, students use a chant to identify all the parts of a personal narrative, then follow explicit direct instruction steps to plan a story on a simple organizer. Throughout the lesson, students orally rehearse the story, add punctuation to the organizer, then write. The purpose of this lesson is for students to learn the structure and steps necessary to slowly be released to write their own personal narratives.
