Mehlej Girls School/ Waterwell

Challenge: A Primary school owperates with 356 students and 11 staff without constant clean drinking water. Enough municipal water does not reach to school due to low water pressure. Girl students going through their monthly menstrual cycle face challenges maintaining their hygiene, and there is a shortage of water during students' mid-day meals. The students often miss classes to go home for water refills and to use a toilet, which negatively affects their education in the long run. Solution: With the support of Khushu, Minaxi, Kamla, Tara Shah, Karma Junction was able to install a water well which extracted water from 200 feet under the ground. The well water is not only used for hydration and maintaining hygiene, but also enables students and teachers to utilize the restroom facilities and drink clean water during mid-day meals. .
