Exploring Hillstream Habitat for Rare Local Fish | Lantau, Hong Kong

This river is designated by the governmental Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department as one of the "Ecologically Important Streams" within the territory. Fish species observed during this exploration, ordered by frequency of encounter: Green Swordtail: Xiphophorus hellerii (剑尾鱼) (Invasive Species) Predaceous Chub: Parazacco spilurus (異鱲) Chinese Rasbora: Rasbora steineri (斯 氏波魚) (Could've been juvenile Parazacco spilurus) Various species of hillstream loaches Chinese Half-striped Barb: Puntius semifasciolatus (五線無鬚鲃 /七星魚) Thick-lipped Barb: Acrossocheilus beijiangensis (北江光唇魚) Dwarf Dragon Goby: Rhinogobius duospilus (溪吻 虎魚) I mentioned in the video that I wasn't sure if the swordtails are invasive or not but later confirmed through online research that they indeed are. Like the thick-lipped barb, they are often found grazing on the algae covered river rocks. I fear they are directly competing with this vulnerable Hong Kong species. No sunscreen was applied to minimize external contamination. Please exercise the greatest respect to nature if you decide to attempt this route. Many species of fish present here are of high local conservation risk (except for the invasive swordtails).
