After more than 23 years away from California, I met up with Every Single Muscle and Russly to check out RARE FORMULA in Torrance, California — a shop packed with vintage toys, wild collectibles, vendor cases, and the kind of rare pieces that make you stop mid-sentence. RARE FORMULA had the feel of a toy shop mixed with a toy mall, with cases full of vintage action figures, monsters, sofubi, one-of-a-kind pieces, and toys I had truly never seen before. We found crazy grails, strange collectibles, and some incredible pieces that ended up coming home for my own collection. I also made a trade, discovered a dangerous new rabbit hole with sofubi toys, and got to take a peek at the personal collection of shop owners Adolfo and Lauri, who were amazing hosts. Of course, once I saw their collection, I wanted to buy something from it… but did they actually let me?
