31. From a Highway Rest Stop to the Timeless Charm of Bundi (26th Dec 2025).

Road Trip, Amritsar-Kanyakumari, (Day 31) The previous evening had been filled with uncertainty. We were struggling to find the right road and wondering where we would spend the night. Then, almost unexpectedly, we found ourselves on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway (NE-4) at a modern rest area near Garoth, Madhya Pradesh. It turned out to be one of the best overnight halts of the entire journey. A brightly lit parking area, plenty of fellow travellers, a restaurant serving food even after midnight, spotless washrooms, and hot tea and coffee—everything we needed after a long day on the road. We slept around 2 a.m. and woke up at 7:30 a.m. after over five hours of deep, uninterrupted sleep. With the morning sun shining and most of the overnight vehicles already gone, we enjoyed a leisurely cup of coffee, stretched our legs, and freshened up before hitting the road again. By 9:30 a.m., we were cruising north on the smooth and scenic Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, chatting, listening to music, and enjoying every kilometre of the drive home. After spending two consecutive nights sleeping in the car, we decided it was time for a proper break. Fond memories of our visit to Bundi in 2014 made the choice easy. En route, we crossed the iconic Kota Hanging Bridge over the Chambal River—a spectacular drive in itself. We reached Bundi by afternoon and checked into Hotel Nawal Sagar Palace, overlooking the serene Nawal Sagar Lake. The afternoon was spent catching up on sleep, followed by a relaxed evening soaking in Bundi’s timeless charm. After two nights on the road, a peaceful sleep within four walls felt like pure luxury.
