The case was heard before the Bench headed by the Chief Justice, following which the court adjourned the matter to Tuesday. The litigation stems from the High Court's April 8, 2026 order, directing the release of the pending 18 per cent DA to employees. However, the Punjab Government and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) challenged the ruling by filing two Letters Patent Appeals (LPA Nos. 1249 and 1437 of 2026, State of Punjab vs Nirmal Singh Dhanoa). During Monday's hearing, PSPCL filed a fresh affidavit before the court. Taking note of the submission, the Bench directed counsel for the petitioners representing the employees to file a response.
