How I Learned COLORED PENCILS as a Beginner in 5 STEPS | Trying Woomer Art Colored Pencils

I had never touched a colored pencil in my life. As an oil painter trained in classical techniques at an art academy in Italy, I decided to dedicate 5 days to learning colored pencils completely from scratch, one concept per day, all applied to a single drawing of an apple. This is everything I learned, and what surprised me most! Woomer Art gifted me their 72 Colored Pencils set, and this is not a paid sponsorship, just a product I was genuinely excited to try and wanted to document honestly. And I was honestly impressed! THE 5 STEPS I FOLLOWED : 🍎 Step 1 — Color Swatching: testing all 72 colors and learning the difference between oil-based and wax-based colored pencils 🍎 Step 2 — Paper Test + First Layer: trying printer paper, sketchbook paper and dedicated pencil paper, then laying down the first lightest layer on the apple 🍎 Step 3 — Gradients + Second Layer: practicing color transitions before applying the second layer on the apple 🍎 Step 4 — Building Darkness: layering darker and darker tones to build richness and depth 🍎 Step 5 — Burnishing: the final technique that brings everything together WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT COLORED PENCILS AS AN OIL PAINTER Coming from oil painting, colored pencils felt both foreign and familiar at the same time. The biggest difference I found is that in oils you always start from the darks. In colored pencils instead, you start from the lightest colors and build gradually, though the principle of working in thin layers and increasing pressure over time is something both mediums share. What genuinely surprised me was how rich and luminous the colors become with multiple layers, each new layer doesn't cover what's underneath, it amplifies it! ABOUT THE WOOMER ART 72 COLORED PENCILS These are oil-based colored pencils, which means no wax bloom — a common issue with wax-based pencils where a white haze appears on the surface over time. The pigmentation is strong enough to show even on a black surface, and they layered beautifully across all 5 steps without losing quality or grip. As someone who had never used colored pencils before, I found them genuinely easy to work with from day one. 🔹 Storewide 10% Off Code: KATERYNAMIRO (no expiration date!)
