Encoded Archival Description #SAA_ARCS_Resources
The purpose of the Society of American Archivists – Archivists of Religious Collections Section, Models and Resources Committee (MRC) is to provide information to section members on all aspects of archival work relating to the administration of religious collections. The webinar will introduce archival encoding standards maintained by the Society of American Archivists, focusing on the recently approved updates to Encoding Archival Description (EAD), Encoded Archival Context-Corporate bodies, Persons, and Families (EAC-CPF), and Encoded Archival Context-Functions (EAC-F). This will include a review of the purpose and structure of these standards, as well as the changes made in the recent release. The presenters will also explore how encoding standards can be implemented to improve access to archival materials. Cory Nimer is the university archivist at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He is currently the lead for the Outreach and Communications Team for the Technical Subcommittee on Encoded Archival Standards (TS-EAS) and previously served on the SAA Standards Committee and as the SAA representative to the ALA Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access and the MARC Advisory Committee. His research interests include archival descriptive practice, archival literacy, and the history of archival institutions in the Inter-mountain West. Elizabeth Russey Roke is the Archival Technology Program Manager at Emory University Libraries. Primarily focused on description, discovery, and access to special collections materials, she works on a variety of technology projects and initiatives related to metadata standards, archival descriptive practice, discovery and next generation technology such as linked data and AI. She holds a dual MA/MLS from the University of Maryland and is a member of the SAA Technical Subcommittee on Encoded Archival Standards.
