Soyoung is a timid and sensitive woman. She suffers all manner of insults from her future mother-in-law for being pregnant before marriage. Despite opposition from her in-laws—who say, “It shows you have no upbringing. Is holding a man down by the ankles what love is?”—Soyoung marries Taejun. Deeply hurt by her mother-in-law’s words, Soyoung keeps her feelings bottled up in her diary instead of speaking her mind openly in front of others even after marriage. Five years after her marriage, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law treat her well, thinking, “Now they are part of our family.” However, Soyoung resolves to take revenge on their past behavior, declaring, “I will make them regret it!” On the day her sister-in-law gifts her a T-shirt, Soyoung recalls the bad things they did to her and shoves the shirt into the trash can. She also tells her son, Hoon, not to go to his grandmother, beginning to express the emotions she has been holding back.
