Ordinary People, Extraordinary God: The Women at the Tomb
God used these ordinary women, whose lives had been transformed by Jesus, to become faithful followers, supporters, and the first witnesses of the resurrection. Their stories remind us that transformed lives, faithful service, and attentiveness to Jesus' voice are really what matter. Read Luke 8:1-3. Joanna and Mary Magdalene first appear in Scripture as women whose lives had been changed by Jesus. They weren’t famous, powerful, or prominent religious leaders. They were simply people who experienced His grace and chose to follow Him. Before they became witnesses of the resurrection, they were faithful followers in the ordinary days of ministry. God often uses ordinary people who are willing to say yes to Him. How has Jesus changed your life, and how are you currently responding to His grace? Day 2. Read 2 Corinthians 5:17. Mary Magdalene and Joanna encountered Jesus and were never the same. Their stories remind us that following Jesus is not simply about believing certain truths—it is about being transformed. While our stories may look different, every believer is called to live as a new creation. The evidence of Jesus’ work in our lives should become visible in our attitudes, priorities, and relationships. What area of your life is God currently transforming, and how can you cooperate with His work? Day 3. Read John 20:11-18. Mary Magdalene recognized Jesus when He spoke her name. She had spent enough time with Him to know His voice. In a world filled with distractions, opinions, and competing priorities, it can be difficult to hear the voice of God. Yet Jesus still calls His followers into a relationship where they can know Him personally. What practices help you hear God’s voice, and what distractions may be preventing you from listening closely right now? Day 4. Read Colossians 3:23-24. The women who followed Jesus spent much of their time serving behind the scenes. They supported the ministry, cared for practical needs, and remained faithful even when no spotlight was on them. Their faithfulness reminds us that God values obedience more than recognition. Many of the most important acts of service are seen only by Him. Where is God calling you to serve faithfully without seeking credit or applause? Day 5. Read Matthew 28:5-10. Jesus chose ordinary women to become the first witnesses of His resurrection. In a culture that often dismissed their testimony, God entrusted them with the greatest news in history. The same God still uses ordinary people to share His message today. You do not need a platform, title, or special status to be used by God. You simply need a willing heart. Who is one person in your life who needs encouragement, hope, or the message of Jesus this week, and how might God use you to reach them?
