Should we interpret this as a sign of a certain level of confidence in the negotiations? What are your thoughts? [Yoo Dal-seung] There are two aspects to consider. On one hand, there is confidence, but on the other, there is the limited timeframe of April 29th for the U.S. military. This war, which began with U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on February 28th, has a 60-day period for conducting military operations without congressional approval. Therefore, April 29th can be seen as the point where the 60-day mark is reached. However, on the other hand, a positive aspect is that the significance of the two-week agreement can be viewed as a combination of various complex factors. From a military standpoint, the U.S. has concluded that regime change in Iran is impossible through airstrikes alone. Economically, as Iran implements an asymmetric strategy of blockading the Strait of Hormuz, global energy supply chains are being disrupted, and if a prolonged war with Iran were to ensue, it would lead to a major crisis for the global economy. Also, politically, given that both domestic and international public opinion in the U.S. are currently unfavorable, the U.S. will face numerous obstacles if it continues to drag this war out; therefore, the end of April can be seen as a significant timeframe. In fact, there are positive reactions coming from the White House stating that negotiations are proceeding productively. What is your perspective, Director? [Um Hyo-sik] During the war, the U.S. and Iran used extremely harsh language to criticize or attack each other, but since the ceasefire, there have been no such remarks, have there? On the contrary, there are indications that the talks are proceeding well—that freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz will be more guaranteed, and that there is progress regarding uranium enrichment. Furthermore, neighboring countries, led by Pakistan, are stepping forward to act as mediators, and several European nations—a group of 40 countries—are gathering to hold talks for peaceful navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. So, overall, the situation feels like it has improved significantly compared to the past, and isn't the ceasefire period until the 21st? Furthermore, there is a nuance suggesting that the second meeting between the U.S. and Iran is almost certainly going to take place. Although the White House spokesperson denied reports of a two-week extension, the fact that it is not true implies that the U.S. did not request it. In other words, this could be interpreted to mean that Iran made the request.
