New treatments for diabetic kidney disease | Episode 321

We are living in an epidemic of diabetes, with more than 1 billion diabetic patients worldwide. Pakistan is at the forefront of this epidemic, the country with the highest number of diabetic patients. No wonder we will soon be the only country with the largest CKD population as a result of diabetic kidney disease. Diabetic kidney disease has now four groups of medication to treat with, which can be used individually as well as in combination, often slowing down the progression of kidney disease up to 40 percent. Yet, there are many unmet needs, patients with significant proteinuria or patients with late-stage CKD who have no treatment option, patients who end up requiring renal replacement therapy.
