Why We Moved to France 🇫🇷

Why did we really move to France? This week’s episode is a little different. No huge plan. No grand story arc. Just real life unfolding across one gloriously random week here in southwest France 🇫🇷 One moment we’re filming magnificent French châteaux for a television project with Ken and Dave… the next we’re somehow back in Ben’s Blues Bar for what feels like the fifth night in a row 🍻🎶 Then suddenly it’s home again. Back to river life. Back to wildlife tours, guests, sunsets on the Lot and the quieter rhythm that made us fall in love with France in the first place. Old friends Andy and Marie arrive from Jersey, bringing decades of friendship with them, and together we head out onto the river at night for one of those magical evenings that reminds us exactly why we chose this life. Then things become wonderfully chaotic… We head to Action, France’s gloriously dangerous discount store where you can enter for batteries and leave with inflatable flamingos, sushi kits and emotional confusion. Maria gets an idea: “Let’s have a cocktail party.” Which of course escalates rapidly 🍸😂 Friends gather beside the river. Cocktails are invented. Questionable drinks appear. Laughter echoes across the water. And then… after one cocktail too many… Vicky falls backwards into the river and earns herself a brand new nickname: Swampy. At that point, even France itself seemed to suggest: “Perhaps it’s time for bed.” This episode really captures what life here has become for us. Not just beautiful villages and sunshine… but community. Friendship. Simplicity. Random adventures. Long evenings. River trips. Shared meals. And the strange joy of building a completely different life far from where we started. This… is why we moved to France.
