The ARY Digital drama "Parwarish" has been the show everyone is talking about. But did it get the realities of Pakistani family life right or wrong? I sat down for a fun, heartfelt, and very honest roundtable discussion with my two sisters and my niece to untangle the complex and sometimes controversial themes in this show. This isn't your typical drama review. We're having a real debate and a deep conversation from the perspective of ordinary women who saw our own lives reflected in this powerful story. We're asking the tough questions: Was Jahangir's authoritarian parenting style driven by love or by fear? How do parents in Pakistan today navigate the intense pressure of "log kya kahenge" (what will people say)? Are the challenges for kids in Pakistan, who are living in a global social media culture, the same as for kids abroad? We also discuss the pressure on desi women, the joint family system, and the show's incredible handling of mental health. This conversation was full of laughter, strong opinions, and a lot of love.
