The Nessmuk Canoe: a Pitt Rivers Museum workshop
The VERVE: Need / Make / Use project at Pitt Rivers Museum hosted an opportunity to build a small fleet of “water-worthy” Nessmuk canoes in just four days. Under the guidance of expert local woodcarver and shipbuilder Simon Clements, participants looked, listened, drew, sawed, sanded, glued and painted one-person vessels based on a Native American design – but would they float?
