La crue du Garon des 2 et 3 décembre 2003 - Ça n'arrive pas qu'aux autres #5

The flood of December 2, 2003, left its mark on the area crossed by the Garon River. In Thurins, the industrial zone was flooded. In Brignais, two schools and the middle school had to be evacuated. The town center was under water, and many businesses were severely affected, as were those in Millery and Vourles. In Montagny-le-Bas, Grigny, and Givors, 150 homes were flooded. This flood left its mark on the landscape, on buildings, and also on people's minds. And more than 15 years later, the memories are still vivid, vivid, and etched in our minds. It is to this experience that we wish to pay tribute here. An experience filled with fear, unpreparedness, and mistakes, but also with clarity, responsiveness, and solidarity. The flood reveals our fragility, but it also reveals our strength. The important thing is that this experience be of use to others, but also to the future. Because while flooding leaves a lasting impression on some, others quickly forget it. Bad memories fade, and life goes on. That's why we need to talk about it again and again, listen again and again to those who experienced it. We also need to discuss the risk that still exists. In the Garon region (as in many other regions), the most recent studies tell us that a flood greater than that of 2003 is possible. So we must prepare for it, we must be ready!
