Hawaiian Bandshell

Entertainment has always been part of the Knoebels story. In Part 8 of our Knoebels History Series, Dick Knoebel looks back at the performances, personalities, and memorable moments that brought music and entertainment to the park over the years. From diving shows at Crystal Pool and a 16-year-old “tree sitter” perched 35 feet in the air for more than two weeks, to hometown bands performing under the Hawaiian Bandshell, this chapter of Knoebels history is filled with stories you won’t find just anywhere. Built by Pete and Dick’s father sometime between 1946 and 1948, the Hawaiian Bandshell got its name from a design idea Pete brought home from Hawaii during his naval service in World War II. Since then, it has hosted countless musicians, entertainers, and special moments, including Taylor Swift’s first public performance.
