Community Digitalisation Webinar: From Insights to Action | 23 July 2026

How do we build digital payment ecosystems that create meaningful opportunities for underserved communities? In this webinar, FinMark Trust and partners share insights from the first phase of the Community Digitalisation project in Thembisa and Hammanskraal, exploring the progress made, lessons learned and what it will take to strengthen digital payments adoption and advance financial inclusion. The discussion highlights why increasing digital payments isn't only about technology – it's about understanding people's everyday realities. By listening to communities, co-creating solutions and strengthening collaboration between regulators, financial service providers, development partners and communities themselves, we can build digital ecosystems that are trusted, practical and inclusive. The webinar features: Opening remarks by Marc Schrijver (World Bank) Project reflections and insights from Karabo Mothokoa (FinMark Trust) A panel discussion featuring representatives from National Treasury, Standard Bank, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and independent digital financial services experts on the role of financial service providers and regulators in driving community-level digital payments adoption. The Community Digitalisation project forms part of the Inclusive Payments Digitalisation Programme, implemented in collaboration with the South African Reserve Bank's National Payment System Department (SARB NPSD), the World Bank and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
