The Let Out: Celebrating Fun & Fancy Free Blackness with Issa Rae

Welcome to our last week of The Drive In! It’s been amazing diving into film with you guys and exploring ways that we can be “fun and fancy free” as we celebrate Black stories. Today we took a deeper look into uplifting storytelling with one of my favorite Black writer’s, directors and producers: Issa Rae. Issa has been such a pillar in how black stories are shared in the community. With her hit series, “Insecure” founded from her independently created YouTube Series, “The Mis-adventures of Awkward Black Girl,” Issa was able to tell stories of nuance and humanism in places where the black experience was merely a monolithic tale.
