Brenda Maroney Story

Osseointegration for above knee amputees is an exciting new innovation for transfemoral amputees. Today we show one of our patients – Brenda Maroney – ready to begin her journey back to bipedal ambulation, but, for the first time since her original surgery, without a prosthetic socket. Brenda has been our patient for many years, but only recently made the difficult decision to proceed with osseointegration surgery after ongoing physiological changes made traditional socket fitting impossible. After careful consideration, she made the decision, along with her physicians, to proceed forward to this very unique and promising surgery. Waiting for months to get started, she now begins the exciting process of walking again! The “Opra” implant system from “Integrum” is featured in this content. After surgery and recovery begins the “mobilization and training program to be done with a physical therapist”. The pre-prosthetic phase involves stretching and preparing for the initial training prosthesis. The initial training prosthesis is fit at least 4 weeks post operatively. This is the stage that Brenda is starting today in our video. Here we have the first 3 days of Brenda with her training prosthesis.
