Aziz Huq on restoring the rule of law in a rising 'dual state'

For the inaugural Gregory M. Harvey and Elizabeth M. Wallace Harvey Memorial Lecture, Professor Aziz Z. Huq of the University of Chicago Law School explored how the idea of a ‘dual state’ helps clarify the unfolding constitutional situation in the United States. The event included an introduction by Assistant Clinical Professor Ruth Greenwood, director of the Election Law Clinic at Harvard Law School, and a Q&A moderated by Professor Nick Stephanopoulos. A scholar of U.S. and comparative constitutional law, Huq's recent work concerns democratic backsliding and the regulation of AI. He is the author of numerous books and articles, including "How to Save a Constitutional Democracy" (2018) and "America is Watching the Rise of a Dual State" (The Atlantic, 2025).
