Lecture: Sérgio B. Martins on Hélio Oiticica

In the first of a series of lectures presented 2/1/17 in association with the exhibition "Hélio Oiticica: To Organize Delirium," critic and art historian Sérgio B. Martins discusses Brazilian art from the 1940s-70s. For his lecture, titled “Each One Must be Vanguard: Hélio Oiticica’s Shifting Utopias”, he addresses the genesis of Oiticica’s avant-garde practice, especially his involvement in the Tropicália movement and his integration of rock music motifs into his formal and conceptual repertoire throughout the 1970s.
