The Flaming Lips on Ronald Jones and his departure from the band (2004)
The Flaming Lips, their long-time manager Scott Booker, and filmmaker Bradley Beesley discuss the band's former guitarist Ronald Jones. This audio is from the commentary track on the Fearless Freaks documentary and was recorded in 2004. In this excerpt, the group discuss Jones' entry to the band, his personality and his departure. They also tell an anecdote about Captain Eyeball's guitarist Ted Drake, who was a friend of Ronald's in the early 1990s. I've added timestamps for convenience. There is some audio bleed from the documentary itself unfortunately. The video footage is not from the documentary, I just put together some clips from Ronald's tenure with the band. The photograph of Ronald used in the thumbnail was taken by Jay Blakesberg. Timestamps: 00:00 Ronald before joining the Lips 00:20 "Dr. Distortion" Ted Drake anecdote 01:39 Ronald joining the band 02:32 Ronald's personality 03:19 Ronald's departure in 1996 I've also put together a video from the same commentary track where the band discusses Richard English's departure from the band in 1989, you can find that here: • The Flaming Lips on Richard English leavin...
