Abandoned Wizard Hat Cottage Reclaimed by the Forest for 100 Years Now a Glowing Fantasy Mansion

Deep in an overgrown forest, past a stone path swallowed by moss and mushrooms, stands a house shaped like a wizard's hat — and it hasn't been touched in a hundred years. In today's video, we bring this one-of-a-kind cottage back from the edge of collapse. Its towering, curled timber roof had fractured under decades of storms. Ivy had pulled the shingles loose one by one. The little stone pond out front had gone stagnant and green, and inside, the whole structure had been stripped bare by time — cracked plaster, exposed timber framing, and rooms full of nothing but dust and fallen leaves. What we set out to build in its place is a warm, whimsical, fully livable fairytale home, room by room, from the roofline down to the last doorknob. Here's how the rebuild came together: 🌲 Phase 1 — Timber Frame & Roof Revival Every rotten beam, cracked rafter, and split shingle was pulled and replaced by hand with fresh oak, following the original curved silhouette exactly. Thousands of new wooden shingles were laid one at a time in a fish-scale pattern up to the roof's signature curled tip — then finished in a deep, glossy violet with hand-painted gold trim. 🪟 Phase 2 — Windows, Doors & Stonework Every circular and arched window was rebuilt with new hand-turned timber frames and gold-finished hardware. The old stone foundation, steps, and pathway were repointed by hand with traditional lime mortar — no concrete, staying true to the cottage's original craft. 🏞️ Phase 3 — The Forest Pond & Garden The clogged, stagnant pond was fully drained, scrubbed back to bare stone, resealed, and refilled — bringing its little waterfall back to life. Around it, we replanted a full woodland garden: wildflowers, ferns, trailing wisteria, and a few whimsical mushroom sculptures for good measure. 🛋️ Phase 4 — Room-by-Room Interior Rebuild Inside, we rebuilt eight distinct spaces from the studs out: a grand entrance hall, a double-height staircase hall, a living room with a working stone fireplace, a sunlit gallery corridor, a full working kitchen with a hand-hammered copper range hood, a master bedroom with its own fireplace, a dressing room lined with built-in wardrobes, and a marble master bathroom with a hand-laid floral mosaic floor.
